Notes on documentation

  • Every certificate must include the name of its issuer and issuing date.
  • Documents written in foreign languages must be submitted with their Japanese translated copies.
  • Each copy must include its issuing date, issuer, and description of the relationship between the issuer and applicant. Note that double-sided copies are unacceptable.
  • If the applicant had studied abroad before, the certificate of attendance and academic transcript should be also submitted. In case of the attendance rate number which is below 80%, the statement of reasons is necessary.
  • For applicants who have graduated from their last educational institutions over 5 years ago, detailed objectives for Japanese language learning and educational options after graduation must be submitted.
  • Other documents may be necessary in case the Immigration Bureau requires.
  • Certificates issued in Japan should be submitted within 3 months of the date of issue, and those issued outside of Japan within 6 months.
  • Documents must not be stapled and clipped instead.
